Nepal and UAE to sign pact on jobs

Krishna Mohan Shrestha, Charge d’affaires at Nepal’s Embassy in the UAE told Khaleej Times that both the countries were discussing these matters and that an MoU was in the pipeline. Shrestha was speaking at the sidelines of the Nepal Job Fair in Dubai.

The one-day fair was organised by the Nepal Association for Foreign Employment Agency (NAFEA).

Shrestha said that UAE Labour Minister Ali bin Abdullah Al Kaabi was set to visit Nepal soon and both the governments would be signing the pact. “Talks are on in this connection. The MoU would consist of several points such as labour issues, protection of the Nepalese nationals and the minimum wage. Al Kaabi would be visiting the country soon in this connection,” he said.

“There are many kinds of myths attached with the work force of Nepal. The most common among them is that there is no skilled labour available in the country. This is a wrong notion and we need to crack it. And this fair would help the local employers know more and have an in depth view and understanding about the people of Nepal,” he added.

More than a dozen companies from Nepal took part in the fair. Most of these companies dealt with providing human resource to the Gulf countries. The experts laid stress on the fact that Nepal could turn out to be a major provider of skilled and semi skilled work force.
