BAHRAIN — A modern fishing breading centre will be established in association with the private sector to overcome severe shortage of fish in regional waters.
The centre is expected to increase annual breeding by 15 to 20 per cent, in which five million fish were bred last year.
Director of Marine Resources at the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Life, Environment and Wildlife, Dr Abdullah Shams, said in a statement that the centre was still in its planning process and would be formed to meet local fish demand.
“The annual production of the Ras Hayan Fish Farming isn’t enough for consumption as most of the fish are released into the sea to protect marine life,” he added.
The aquariums of the centre would be built on dry land away from the sea to ensure high production, in order to avoid the affect of weather and marine environment on breeding.
