New sewage treatment plant

DUBAI — The Drainage and Irrigation Department of Dubai Municipality has started a new sewage treatment plant in the Aweer area, it was announced yesterday by Mattar Al Tayer, Deputy Director-General of Dubai Municipality.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Talib Julfar, Director of the department said that the sewage water has started flowing to the new plant, where it will be treated to produce irrigation water in accordance with the approved standards.

“The new plant has a capacity for treating 330,000 gallons of sewage water per day, and this treated water will be used for irrigating the green areas in the prison compound, which will be set up soon. On an average 100,000 gallons of treated water will be used to irrigate and increase the green areas in the prison compound,” he said.
