No fire at Abu Dhabi Oil Refinery

ABU DHABI - The fire that broke out on Sunday was not at the Abu Dhabi Oil Refinery as was reported, but at an electricity boiler on Umm Al Nar island. Sources at Takreer confirmed this on Monday.

The minor fire which broke out on Umm Al Nar Island was extinguished by the Abu Dhabi Police and Civil Defence personnel on Sunday. No one was injured in the blaze at the electricity boiler.

The fire was prevented from spreading due to quick intervention by the police and civil defence teams.

Squads from the two departments moved swiftly to the site after it was reported to the central operations room.

Fire-fighting teams on the Island assisted police and civil defence personnel to bring the blaze under control in 45 minutes. Cooling operations took almost an hour.

Investigations are underway to find out the cause of the accident.
