ABU DHABI — The Ministry of Interior has ended difficulties faced by Bangladeshi expatriates in completing their visa procedures as it ordered the naturalisation and residency departments (NRDs) across the country to accept both the handwritten and new machine-readable passports (MRPs) of the South Asian nation.
Major-General Nasser Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalisation, Residency and Ports Affairs at the MoI, told Khaleej Times on Thursday, “The MoI has sent a circular to all immigration departments across the country (in this regard) and the Bangladeshi passport issue has been promptly resolved.”
The matter was resolved after Bangladeshi Ambassador to the UAE Mohammed Nazmul Quaunine held talks with MoI officials on Monday.
Bangladesh started issuing MRPs in April. Its missions in the UAE issue only handwritten passports. The two types of passports had created confusion and some expatriates could not complete transactions at NRDs.
