A well-known Dubai-based Pakistani businessman Ayub Afridi has been appointed as the honorary consul general of Romania in Peshawar, Pakistan.
Afridi told Khaleej Times on Saturday that he wanted to promote trade and tourism between both countries.
Last week, the Romanian Consulate was inaugurated in Peshawar where the announcement was made.
He said that exchange of students would be part of his agenda for the future.
Afridi, who is also chairman of welfare organisation Pak Khyber Wing of the Pakistan Association in Dubai, said he would also strive to attract investment from Romania to Pakistan in addition to improving bilateral trade links.
The Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan Eilion Ion said earlier that by opening the consulate in Peshawar and appointing Afridi, the aim is further strengthen economic and trade links between the two countries.
"We expect to see more Pakistani businessmen and students going to Romania to further strengthen bilateral relations," he said on the occasion.
