Pak woman who delivered baby aboard aircraft is discharged

DUBAI — The Pakistani woman, who delivered one of her twins aboard an aircraft last week, has been discharged from hospital after the Pakistan Consulate paid her bills.

After spending over a week in Al Wasl Hospital, 22-year-old Nasim Bibi was allowed to leave Al Wasl Hospital after the Pakistan Consulate intervened upon being tipped off by Khaleej Times. Several well wishers also contacted the newspaper offices offering financial support to Nasim after reading of her plight.

Officials from the Pakistan Consulate cleared hospitals bills amounting to over Dh4,000. "We have followed the case closely and on Monday, welfare officials from the consulate helped pay the bills for the hospital," said Mohammed Waseem, Welfare Officer at the consulate.

"Because Nasim cannot travel before November 9 due to health risks to her children, we are ensuring that her children's names are endorsed in her passport before that time," explained Waseem. He also said that Emirates Airlines had offered her stay in a hotel until she was fit to travel.

Happy that she got support, even from people she did not know, Nasim thanked the consulate for their support. "The past week has been very traumatic for me. Firstly, I delivered twin girls in an odd situation and then I stayed in hospital all alone, not sure about my fate. I am thankful to the consulate for helping me out in this situation," she says.

Nasim gave birth to twin girls, Humeira and Sumeira on October 30. One child was born aboard the Emirates Airlines aircraft, that was transiting in Dubai while on its way to Islamabad from Jeddah, while the other was born in Al Wasl Hospital after airport clinic officials discovered that Nasim was carrying twins.
