A day after the launch of an e-service through which motorists will be able to top up their Salik accounts from their cell phones, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said it’s in the final stages of developing a new system under which people will be able to pay car parking fees with their mobile phones.

During the inspection of the RTA stand at the ongoing Gitex-2008 exhibition, Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, said that service, named ‘m-parking’, involves the user paying the parking fees by simply sending an SMS to a designated service number. “This system will make it much easier for motorists. The service is currently being tested,” said Al Tayer. The service has also been showcased at the Gitex exhibition.

Al Tayer said that an extensive range of e-services was being offered at the public buses too. “We are offering services like automated vehicle movement to track the movement of public buses on roads, wireless Internet and other integrated online system on board these new buses.
