Maintaining personal hygiene and a healthy lifestyle are essentials for every Muslim and is of immense importance. Simple daily routines such as washing of hands after using the bathroom or sneezing; taking a regular shower, and staying hydrated can make a big difference in your physical and mental wellness.
"While reflecting on the sanctity of life, the holy month is also one of the best times to think about the importance of personal care and hygiene which are essential for the promotion of overall health and well-being," says Chandan Singh, CEO of Dhofar Global, a supplier of hygiene products in the Middle East.
He shares with Khaleej Times some dos and don'ts you may practice during Ramadan to help ensure personal health and oral cleanliness:
Do floss, brush your teeth and use mouthwash at least twice a day to avoid bad breath during fasting.
Do consume plenty of water, fruits, and vegetables during Iftar and Suhoor to prevent dehydration.
Do try to get enough sleep to keep you fully energized to face the tasks ahead but also to prevent under-eye bags. In short, give your eyes the attention they need. Placing tea bags over the eyes are proven effective to get rid of those dark circles.
Do try to always wear a clean set of clothes daily, also including a clean pair of socks. Change out of your sweaty clothes immediately after exercising to avoid infections.
Do not take much of spicy and salty dishes, chocolates, cereals, cheeses and other sticky foods.
Do not exert yourself throughout the day. If exercising, do not perform exhausting workout activities.
Do not forget to moisturize your skin constantly - use a regular moisturizing agent like lotions and creams as fasting can cause your skin to look dull.
Do not forget that healthy eating leads to glowing skin. When choosing your meal, make use that you are eating meals with the right nutrients. Try to avoid junk foods and sweets.
