The Islamabad High Court on Thursday dismissed an application filed by Inspector General of the Islamabad Police (IG) Tahir Alam seeking quashing of a case registered against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, cabinet ministers and others following the death of three people during sit-ins in Islamabad's Red Zone last year.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui dismissed the application after Additional Attorney General Waqar Rana failed to appear before the court.
A district and sessions court in September last year ordered the registration of an FIR against the prime minister and cabinet members - Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique - and a former police IG over the deaths of three Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) workers.
The deaths occurred as a result of clashes between police and protesters in Islamabad on August 31 last year.
While the dismissal has restored the case, it has also vacated a stay order granted earlier.
