A day after the rains stopped, the residents of The Springs found their homes and streets partly submerged.
They said the water-logging was caused by a water pipe that burst at around 9.30am yesterday.
The bursting of the pipe also disrupted water supply to their homes, they added.
Several houses were partly submerged until later afternoon when the authorities concerned managed to drain out the water. “The water was almost knee-deep and the walkways were completely submerged,” said a resident who did not wish to be named.
“My wife was heading for her grocery shopping when she heard a noise and saw a torrent gushing towards her,” said George Franssen, a resident of street number 3.
“Water did not enter our house. We were saved by only two centimetres. We, however, placed our furniture on a higher level because whenever a car passed by high waves were created that touched the walls of our house,” said Franssen, who has been living with his family in the area for over a year.
He also said that by late afternoon the water levels had started receding.
“Water supply has been disrupted to my house but the authorities have been helpful and have assured me that it will be restored by the evening,” said another resident.
“This incident is quite surprising because nothing happened to our area during the flooding in other parts of the city during the rains,” he added.
Developers of The Spings, Emaar, in a statement said, “Emaar’s Emergency Response Team along with its engineering and service providers have worked with the authorities to resolve the problem of disruption in water supply to some villas and water-logging of a few streets caused due to a disruption in the network outside of the Emaar neighbourhood. Work progressed in full swing and water that collected on the streets has been pumped out. Water supply has also been restored. Emaar is providing assistance to the residents where required.”
