Commenting on the new rule limiting the minimum speed limit on highways to 60km per hour, Engineer Badr Al Siri, Director of Traffic Department at RTA, said, “The roads will be monitored with the help of Dubai Police, who will install portable radars to detect anyone driving below 60km per hour.”
He added that no specific lane would be allotted to slow drivers. He also explained that the speed limit would be applicable to highways (maximum 100km per hour).
“We have seen that slow drivers prove to be obstacles for other drivers who have to swerve quickly to avoid a slow moving car in the fast or middle lane,” said Eng Al Siri.
He added that the rule will be enforced as soon as all guidance and speed limit signs are installed on Dubai highways.
He said the rule is applicable to all main roads including Shaikh Zayed Road, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Khail Road, Emirates Road, Al Ittehad Road, Dubai Outer Bypass Road, Dubai-Hatta Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road.
