Premarital check-ups from today

DUBAI — The Dubai Health Authority’s 16 health centres and clinics across the emirate will from today offer premarital medical tests to couples preparing to tie the knot. This was stated here by Dr Ibtehal Derwaish, Director of Medical Affairs, Primary Healthcare. Premarital medical tests were made compulsory by the Ministry of Health last year.

The service is free of cost for UAE nationals, but expatriates will be charged Dh260, said Dr Derwaish. “The tests aim at producing a generation free of hereditary genetic diseases and preventing the spread of sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs),” she said.
