RTA mulls indexing system to facilitate vehicle-related work

DUBAI — The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) plans to develop an archive and indexing system to facilitate the retrieval of data on demand from people for various vehicle-related works.

While stressing on the importance of simplifying the procedures and minimising the time for people reporting to the Licensing Department, Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said talks were on to establish a database of traffic-related information to be supplied in the event of enquiries by phone or the Internet.

“It is vital to implement the principle of decentralisation in delivering services to people. The procedures of processing cases related to payment of traffic fines should be simplified so that they can be completed easily and smoothly by the concerned employees,” said Al Tayer.

He added that the move was aimed at providing better services to people in accordance with the best international practices.

Al Tayer shared this information inspecting the main building of the Licensing Department and the EPCO Tasjeel Centre. He was accompanied by senior officials. The centre provides many services, including vehicle testing, registration, transfer and issuance of ownership papers, and issuing of number plates etc.

The officials of the centre briefed Al Tayer on how the works were conducted in a comprehensive computerized system integrated with the traffic system.

Al Tayer also reviewed the mechanism of vehicle testing from the moment of the vehicle’s entering the test location. The testing covers lights, alignment, tyres, brakes and oval brake shape, chassis and exhaust in order to ascertain the road-worthiness of the vehicles.

Al Tayer also reviewed the procedures of printing a vehicle test certificate, electronic entering of insurance details, collection of technical testing and registration fees, and recovering fines related to offences etc.

Ali Al Jasim, director of Licensing Department said the Department was planning to expand the number of its subsidiary centres. He said a Drivers Licensing Centre had been opened to provide the services of Licensing Department in the building of T-Com at Knowledge Village, Al Saffouh area.
