Sharjah’s inter-emirate bus terminal shifted to Al Jubail

SHARJAH — Buses from Sharjah to other emirates now commence their journey from the new bus terminal in Al Jubail (opposite the Fish Market), instead of Al Rolla Square.

Sharjah Transport Corporation (STC) on October 5 shifted a number of inter-city and inter-emirates routes to the new bus station so as to provide more buses, convenience as well as facilities.

The Sharjah-Dubai services that have been shifted to Al Jubail Station are for all Bur Dubai routes, Satwa, Karama and Al Ghubaiba. The inter-emirates services that have also been shifted include Sharjah-Al Ain, Sharjah-Abu Dhabi, Sharjah-Fujairah, Sharjah-Umm Al Quwwain, Sharjah-Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah-Khor Fakkan.

However, the introduction of the new terminal has reportedly caused inconvenience to some commuters.

“Al Rolla Square was a convenient and centrally-located station. The officials here claim that the location of the station has been changed to provide better service,” says Mohammed Ali, a carpenter who travels to Dubai everyday.

An official from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) that operates the Emirates Express between Dubai and Sharjah, said that the shifting of the station was necessary because the internal roads of Sharjah get overcrowded and are too narrow, even for the medium-sized RTA buses.

“There is too much traffic within Sharjah which causes a lot of delay and, therefore, the buses were usually late. Besides, the bus drivers faced a lot of difficulty in turning as the roads were very narrow,” he explained.
