As the tourism industry continues to drive the development of Sharjah, a number of school students recently made a field trip to Souq Al Jubail, the new vegetable, fruit and fish market. The emirate's latest tourism landmark attracted over 138,000 visitors in its first two weeks of opening in December.
Inaugurated by His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, students from several schools in the emirate were taken on a tour of the market.
The children's tour guide was director of the souq, Ali Hassan Al Suwaidi, who informed students about how the 37,000-square metre, two-floor development was designed to cater to three functions: selling fresh fish, vegetables and fruits, and fresh meat.
On the second leg of their tour, the students visited the outdoor section of the market where the fish is transported directly from boats to retail shops. "We are pleased to see student delegations visiting the market," said Al Suwaidi.- Wam
