DUBAI — Foot massage these days are quite popular with tourists and visitors of major trade exhibitions, fairs and festivals. It is common knowledge that the feet take the heaviest burden of exertion on a human body and masseurs, especially those from the Far East countries where the practice originated, are out to provide instant cure for the troubled feet.

Take for instance, the Thailand Pavilion at the Global Village which has a couple of stalls offering feet, hand and shoulder massage.

What attracts visitors to one of the stalls is a huge poster of a human foot showing the pressure points and their connection to the various parts of the body and how the massage works upwards in reducing stiffness and improving flexibility. The whole place looks relaxing thanks to the all-white decor with comfortable chairs and hygienic conditions.

There is enough privacy and separate areas for ladies with lady attendants. An hour's massage costs Dh100, while it's Dh60 for half an hour. To encourage visitors to try out a relaxing foot massage, one of the stalls is offering a 15-minute session for Dh25.

Simon, a trained masseur at one of the stalls informs that the Thai foot massage is excellent for relieving stress and promoting relaxation while it is also great for general well being.

"It not only increases oxygen to the feet, hands and legs - thus bringing better circulation but the Thai massage also stimulates lymphatic drainage removing toxins and boosting the immune system. It encourages more blood flow into the feet, hands and legs and brings about overall relaxation to the body. It's worth trying out," he said, adding: "What we do here is part of traditional Thai massage and has elements of Shiatsu, Chinese massage and Yoga incorporated into the massage itself therefore the results are remarkable."
