A teenager was rescued after 50 hours trapped under the rubble of a four-storey factory which collapsed in Lahore on Wednesday, officials said on Friday.
Identified only as Shahid, the teen was among the unspecified number of missing, government official Mohammed Usman said. He appeared to be in stable condition.
Rescuers were carefully removing debris in hopes of retrieving more survivors, Usman said.
Meanwhile, death toll in the factory building's collapse touched 37 as rescue crews continued digging through the rubble in search of more bodies or survivors on Friday, the third day of horrifying incident in the city's Sunder Estate.
At least 102 survivors have already been pulled from the debris of the four-storey Rajput Polyester polythene bag factory after it came crashing down on Wednesday evening, trapping dozens of people inside, including the owner and workers. While hopes were fading for anyone left alive as rescuers scrabbled through the debris, a taxi driver Mohammed Iqbal called his family to inform that he along with two others is still trapped under heavy girders.
"There are less chances of finding more injured under the rubble but we are looking for bodies," Arshad Zia, head of rescue services in Punjab. Soldiers and rescue workers were preparing to clear the rubble in front of the factory and move towards the rear of the building where they fear they will discover more victims.
"We expect to find at least 25 more dead bodies in that part of the factory," Zia said.
