With reference to Khaleej Times report headlined ‘Commuters cry foul over hike in Metro charges’ published on August 8, here is an update on metro fares for different trips:

Fares

-A short journey not exceeding 3km would cost Dh1.80.

- A trip within a single zone but exceeding 3km would cost Dh2.30.

- A trip between two zones would cost Dh4.10.

- A journey exceeding two zones would cost Dh5.80.

Monthly passes

The Roads and Transport Authority has launched monthly passes of three different values.

A pass worth Dh100 is confined for unlimited use within one zone, while a pass worth Dh180 can be used to travel between two neighbouring zones. The third pass worth Dh270 gives commuters unlimited access to travel across all seven zones.

All existing Blue Card holders can convert their cards into monthly passes by applying with the ticket offices at Metro stations by just paying the price of the card they want. However, new buyers will have to pay a processing fee of Dh70 in addition to price of the card they wish to buy.

Monthly passes are available on Nol Blue cards only because the cards are identified with the person’s name and photograph.
