Workshop to hone kids' talents

The workshop was held in the DSS office, and the children were provided with colouring material to draw images of Modhesh, the mascot of DSS. The workshop was supervised by art teachers and representatives of the monthly kids newsmagazine, f+iMy Newspaper, a publication dedicated to encourage talented kids.

Yahya Al Marzouqi, Administration Co-ordinator and Supervisor of the event from DSS, said: "The Kid's Talents Square will host a series of workshops which will assess the talents in different fields. The Square will be a meeting point for children blessed with different skills. Our endeavour will be to fine tune these skills."

The Kids Talents Square will be hosted at Al Ghurair City from June 19 to July 31, and children aged between 5 and 12 years can participate in categories as varied as painting, drawing, photography, music, acting, writing, reading, poetry, carpentry, sculpturing, pottery and other talents.

To apply for Kids' Talents Square, a form that is available at the DSS office or the www.Mydsf.com web site has to be filled and submitted to the DSS Office at Department of Economic Development. All the children will be invited for subsequent interviews, basis which they will be evaluated and allocated to their categories.

The activities for the kids include assignment sessions, stage shows, parties, display corners, a participation diary and a weekly notice board, which highlights the activities of the kids.

The privileges for the children who is a member of the Kids Talents Square include a membership card that entitles them to invitations to all events and activities organised by the DSS. A certificate of recognition will also be distributed to the participants in an Awards Ceremony hosted on the Accession Day, the 6th of August.

Registrations for Kids Talents Square will be open till July 15.

The DSS 2003 will start with the Flower Surprises on June 19, followed by Cartoon Surprises, Colour Surprises, Sweets Surprises, Knowledge Surprises, Ice Surprises, Art Surprises, Heritage Surprises, Adventure Surprises, and will end with Back-to-School Surprises on August 29, 2003.
