Emirates suspends flights to Bali

Dubai - Over 700 flights have been cancelled to and from Bali over the course of the last week because of the ash spewing from Mount Rinjani on Lombok.

Emirates has suspended all flights to Bali's Denpasar airport until further notice because of ongoing volcanic activity on the nearby island of Lombok.
"The volcanic ash cloud in the vicinity and at times over Denpasar (DPS/Bali) has resulted in the intermittent closure of Denpasar airport by the authorities. Currently Denpasar airport is open however the times during which flights can operate are varying at short notice with the wind direction determining the levels of ash over the airport and its operational status," an Emirates spokesperson said. "As a result, Emirates' services (passengers and cargo) to and from Denpasar have been suspended until further notice."

Emirates says that all passengers who were planning to go to Bali "will be given the option to rebook to Jakarta (CGK) or an alternate Emirates destination (offered under Emirates regulations) as their new final destination."
Passengers who have already commenced their journey are being given the same options, with the additional option of returning to "the point of origin as per their ticket on the first available Emirates service".

In July, thousands of passengers were stranded in Bali because of similar volcanic activity on the nearby island of East Java.
