The cult superhit from 2006, Rang De Basanti, has completed an entire decade in Bollywood. We look at how the movie made waves.
When Rang De Basanti released on Republic Day of 2006, I was still in the second year of college - green and enthusiastic but lacked motivation. It had become routine to blame the system for everything and conveniently go back to my life.
The movie made us realize that in order to bring upon a change everyone needs to dirty his/her hands. The film's 'college-going' characters became 'us' and every word they uttered became ours.
"Time flies, 10 years and feels like yesterday. We are 10 years older and 'Rang de Basanti' remains relevant. It was destiny to be part of a movie that became a movement," director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra said in a statement.
UTV Motion Pictures and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Films celebrated the decade mark of the film with a screening for the entire cast and crew of the film in Mumbai on Monday.
With this film ringing into its 10th year, we look back at what the film taught us.
