Veteran Indian film actor Om Puri passed away earlier today at the age of 66 according to reports made by the Indian Express and Times of India.
The legendary actor, who is known for his roles in films such Ardh Satya, Bhavni Bhavai, Mirch Masala and Dharavi died after a heart attack.
His sudden death was confirmed by his close friend and Indian filmmaker Ashoke Pandit as he took to Twitter to express his condolences.
Another close friend, UN Women official Anupam Kher also took to Twitter to condole the passing of his long-time friend.
PM Modi has also extended his condolences.
During his lifetime, Om Puri received various prestigious awards including the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and the Padma Shri - the fourth highest civilian award in India.
