Chinese phone maker Tecno Mobile forays into Middle East

dubai - It is one of the top three phone brands in the African continent

Tecno Mobile, a Chinese manufacturer of high-end smartphones and feature phones, has announced its expansion into the Middle East. Celebrating its 10th anniversary year, the move comes after having established itself as one of the top three phone brands in the African continent.

Over the past decade, the mobile phone penetration rate in Africa has risen from six per cent to 80 per cent. Tecno Mobile delivers to 31 African countries with the largest market share in Tanzania and Nigeria.

"We believe that emerging markets are where the future growth is for smartphones," said Arif Chowdhury Transsion, vice-president at Tecno Mobile. Across Africa in 2015, the sales of smartphone increased by 108 per cent which is still only one third of the total mobile phone sales volume.

"We are excited to be making our Middle Eastern debut with the launch of a new product later this month. The Middle East will be an important market for us as part of our growth strategy."

Tecno Mobile also plans to expand into South East Asia and South America. Tecno Mobile does not sell its products in China.
