DUBAI — Talented Salah Al Rimawi edged arch rival Hani Al Hori 11-10 in a spine-chilling cliffhanger at the Ezone Club in Abu Hail late on Sunday night to win the first national 9-ball pool ranking tournament.
The event was played using a double elimination format all the way through to the semifinals.
Earlier in the evening, Al Hori had beaten Al Rimawi 9-7 in the semifinal of the winners’ bracket. Al Rimawi then played well in the semifinal for the losers’ bracket and defeated Ameen Fikri 9-7 to set up a rematch with Al Hori in the title showdown.
Al Rimawi had a fine start to the final as he took two racks with ease in the race-to-11 racks match. However, Al Hori recovered and hit back by capturing four racks on the trot to gain a 4-2 lead.
Al Hori’s fightback and the earlier defeat in the semi-final put Al Rimawi under of pressure.
