DUBAI -Five-star hotels in the UAE produce twice as much carbon dioxide than their counterparts in Europe, according to a statement by Farnek Avireal, a Dubai-based facilities management company.
Quoting a study it undertook recently, the company said that a five-star hotel in Dubai has an annual production of 6,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide while a similar European hotel produces only 3,000 tonnes of the same greenhouse gas per year.
Markus Avireal, the company's general manager, said this brings to 500,000 kg the combined carbon dioxide emission from Dubai's 300 hotels.
