The Divergent Series: Allegiant
These films are hugely popular, but not really our thing. Another in a long line of young adult fantasy survival movies that followed the success of The Hunger Games, this Divergent instalment looks to have more of the same storylines, which keep audiences coming back for more. Angsty young love, guns, standing up to 'The Man' and (this is the reason we're giving it a chance) strong female characters all combine to create the blockbuster.
In Allegiant, Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) must venture out of Chicago's protective walls to save their city.
This film is yet to be rated.
Trivia
. To maximise profits, Allegiant is split into two parts
The Other Side of the Door
Rounding off a pretty poor week, The Other Side of the Door is our customary horror flick. Set in India, two American expats decide to start a family around the outskirts of Mumbai. All goes well until a car crash takes away their son Oliver. Cue a mystic woman, who informs the mother she can say one last goodbye to Oliver if she visits an abandoned temple. There stands a door separating 'this world from the next'. The mum can speak through the door to say farewell to the deceased, but at no point is she permitted to open it. Guess what happens.
Rotten Tomatoes gives this 47%
Trivia
. The mystic woman is played by Fashion's Suchitra Pillai
Bleeding Heart
Unfortunately this movie has a trailer which promises an interesting premise, yet delivers very little. Bleeding Heart is Jessica Biel's latest and only film for a while. Absence, though, has not made the (bleeding) heart grow fonder as she turns in a bland and predictable performance.
Estranged sister May (Biel) and Shiva (Zosia Mamet) rediscover each other after decades and instantly the younger sibling becomes May's responsibility.
Shiva is in an abusive relationship and destructive industry and May takes it upon herself to get her out using any necessary methods.
Rotten Tomatoes gives this 43%
Trivia
. The last memorable role Jessica played was the villainous Melina in the Total Recall remake
Triple 9
A twisty heist mystery thriller with Kate Winslet playing a Russian mafia boss: on paper this movie sounds superb. Unfortunately most other territories where this has released have not felt the same way. Garnering a mixed response on the international circuit, Triple 9 sees Winslet order a huge bank job from a group which contains a crooked cop played by Anthony Mackie. When Mackie gets lumbered with a new boy scout partner played by Casey Affleck, the only way to shake him off the scent is to use him in their scheme.
IMDb gives this 6.6
Trivia
. Shia LaBeouf was originally cast in Affleck's role
