Dubai's only indie, Cinema Akil, to re-open with The Trip To Greece

Curtain up on June 12 for this invaluable space

Gear up for more unique Dubai nights as the city's only independent cinema will soon reopen its doors for the first time since March 14 when it was temporarily shut in support of the UAE's efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.  
Cinema Akil in Alserkal Avenue will be up and running on Friday night, June 12, with a 7pm showing of Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan's latest altered-reality travel comedy, The Trip To Greece. 
When Odysseus left Troy it took him ten years to get back to his home in Ithaca. Steve and Rob have only six days on their own personal odyssey. On the way they argue about tragedy and comedy, astronomy and biology, myth, history, democracy and the meaning of life!
Cinema Akil is now redesigned to offer a safe viewing experience with a reduced capacity of 30 per cent, and seats rearranged to comply with social distancing measures ensuring a two-metre distance between patrons. In accordance with UAE regulations, both visitors and staff are required to wear a face mask. Guests will also have their temperatures checked before entering Alserkal Avenue. The venue will offer only online bookings in order to reduce contact and will administer rigorous disinfection procedures every day, in addition to sanitising stations available across the space.
After the re-opening the cinema will be showing one film per night from Tuesday to Saturday. In house street food and snack vendors Project Chaiwala will be open on the same days from 1 pm to 9 pm, offering your favourite bites and karak tea.
