Why US rapper RUSS appeals to Middle East fans

Top Stories

He performed at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Ghantoot on Saturday evening, and Atlanta rapper RUSS oddly counts Saudi Arabia as his fan base. The nature of file sharing and streaming online has resulted in the country adopting RUSS as one of their own.
Just after his first Middle East concert we caught up with the rapper for a very brief chat.

How does it feel to have fans in the Middle East, so far away from home?
It feels amazing and feels invigorating. My music is all about melody and message.

Have you ever been to Dubai? How does it feel to perform here?
No, but it feels inspiring. It's beautiful, I love the people and I'm super appreciative.

How would you sum up your writing process?
I talk about my life.

When did rap become a full-time career? Did you ever think of doing anything else?
I was full-time at seven years old. I also wanted to play in the NBA.

What have you got coming up?
I'm dropping my debut album There's Really A Wolf on May 5.

With cross media being what it is, would you like to get into TV or movies?
Yes at some point I want to be in movies. Acting is challenging because I'm good at everything else.

How supportive have your family and friends been during your rise?
Amazing.

Can you give us a message for your Saudi and Dubai fans.
Ouhiboukom (I Love You in Arabic).
