People wanting a rapid Covid-19 test to enter Abu Dhabi will have to book an appointment via a dedicated website https://ghantoot.quantlase.com/appointment/update-details/.
The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee said on Wednesday, via a statement released by Abu Dhabi Media Office on Twitter, that this was due to a high demand for the laser-based DPI screening to enter the emirate.
Travellers with a negative Covid-19 test (PCR) result will continue to be allowed to enter the emirate within 48 hours of receiving the result.
The rapid coronavirus test was introduced this week at a dedicate facility at Ghantoot checkpoint, along the main Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway.
Costing Dh50 per person and yielding results within seconds, the screening facility saw huge crowds of people gathering to get tested.
This led to officials temporarily closing the facility on Wednesday.
Quantlase Imaging Lab, a medical arm of Abu Dhabi-based investment firm, International Holding Company (IHC), developed the rapid test.
The test identify inflammation markers in the blood using laser-enabled Diffractive Phase Interferometry (DPI) technology.
If a person tests positive for Covid-19, he or she must then take a standard PCR test to confirm the result.
It is understood that IHC will soon introduce extra screening centres or tents in order to meet the sizeable demand for the rapid tests.
