Pakistan government has launched an online portal to assist those expatriates who have lost jobs abroad due to coronavirus.
Pakistan's Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development noted that online registration offers better prospects of re-employment, certified training and financial assistance for the distressed.
"This is for overseas workers who have lost their jobs. Anyone who is laid off and returning back can register," the ministry said on Twitter.
The ministry stressed that Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari, special assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources Development, is proactively working on re-employment, negotiating at both the government and public-private level.
"Register yourself if you have lost your job abroad. This will put you in the government's priority list to get re-employed, makes it easier to get certified skill training and also makes it possible to apply for social security."
In the UAE, out of a total 82,400 stranded nationals who have registered with the missions for repatriation, 21,843 are those who have lost their jobs due to the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Expatriates who lost jobs may register on the website of Overseas Employment Corporation: https://jobs.oec.gov.pk/returnees_overseas_registration
Also, Pakistan will resume normal flight operations from Saturday. The ministry underlined that priority will be initially given to blue-collar workers stuck in the Gulf region.
