A heart-wrenching video shows a Palestinian man sitting on the window ledge of a hospital to catch a glimpse of his dying mother who was admitted in the Covid-19 ward.
Jihad Al Suwaiti, 30, was told by the hospital staff that he could not meet his ailing mother, Rasma Salema, in person out of fear of contracting coronavirus. So he decided to climb up the wall of the hospital to sit on the window ledge of the room where his mother was admitted.
Al Suwaiti did this every single day until his mother succumbed to coronavirus at a hospital in Hebron last Thursday. In a moving photo shared on Twitter by a user named Mohamed Safa, shows Al Suwaiti perched on the ledge as he watches his mother through the window glass.
According to reports in Daily Mail, Al Suwaiti used a drainpipe and another window ledge to climb up the hospital building so he could sit with his mother, who also had leukaemia.
While a hospital official was quoted in local media as saying: "He spent most of his day there, observing his mother's condition from outside the window, and would come down when he was convinced that she was fast asleep."
Al Suwaiti lost his father 15 years ago and is reportedly the woman's youngest son. The photo of his sitting on the window ledge and watching his mother helplessly, has left netizens teary-eyed. One person commented: "This made me shed a tear. Lost my mum in 2014 and life hasn't been the same." While another person wrote: "Can this become any more sad when we are only able to comfort our loved ones through a window, phone or tablet?"
