UAE Covid vaccine: Over 3.48 million residents vaccinated

Dubai - Nearly 60% of elderly residents receive jab.

Over 3.48 million UAE residents have received the Covid-19 vaccine, a top official has said. This constitutes about 44.89 per cent of the "target", according to Dr Farida Al Hosni, official spokesperson for the UAE health sector.

More importantly, 57.66 per cent of residents aged over 60 years old have received the jab.

The elderly and those with chronic diseases are the priority groups to receive the vaccine across the country.

Addressing the weekly Covid-19 media briefing, the official said that 5.66 million vaccine doses have been provided, with a distribution rate of 57.31 per 100 people.

"We confirm the effectiveness and safety of the vaccines that were approved in the country, especially for the elderly and people with chronic diseases. So we advise and encourage everyone to take the vaccine."

She said that when the majority of the population becomes immune to an infectious disease, it offers "indirect protection for people in the community who are not immune".
