DUBAI — School children in the UAE will have an opportunity to play Twenty20 cricket in an exciting way this vacation. The Max Way Champions League (MCL) will conduct a cricket tournament next month on the lines of the popular Indian Premier League for children aged between 12-18.
The tournament, scheduled to start in the second week of July to August last week, will have six teams competing for the title, organizer Sudhakar Shetty told Khaleej Times.
“It is a good opportunity for talented junior players in the age of 12-15 to rub shoulder with cricketers in the age group of 15-18 years,” he said.
As per the tournament rules, each team should consist three players from the age group of 12-14, ensuring chances for children to play competitively.
The organisers have plans to conduct the tournament all over the UAE.
“We plan to play the tournament in the Zabeel park Dubai, Max Way ground in Sharjah, Al Ain Sportsplex and RAK Power house, ADCC grounds and at Maxtalent St. Marys Catholic School Fujairah,” Shetty said.
“The name of the teams will be announced two week before the start of the tournament,” he said.
“This tournament will also provide an opportunity for the players build new relationship, harmony and develop sportsmanship,” he added.
A total of 35 matches, including the semifinals and finals, are scheduled to be held during the tournament.
The registration would be on a first-come, first-serve basis and the final date of registration is June 10, the organisers said.
UAE national cricketer Naimuddin and former India cricketer Lalchand Rajput are expected to grace the event.
