Dubai - The Dubai Police are distributing high-visibility vests to pedestrians and cyclists after the emirate recorded 194 run-over accidents in the first seven months of the year.

Colonel Saif Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic, revealed that 20 people died and 199 were injured in run-over accidents from January to July. "Of the injures, 25 were serious ones and 79 moderate."
He said five cyclists died and 16 were injured in run-over accidents in the same period.
Col Al Mazroui said the jackets will draw the attention of motorists when pedestrians or cyclists cross roads. He urged pedestrians and cyclists to cross only from designated areas. He also advised them to wear reflective vests at all times.
"Cyclists must never ride between vehicles on the road. It is very dangerous," Col Al Mazroui warned.
