Maid dies while trying to escape from rapists, court hears

An abducted housemaid died while trying to flee from her 'rapist captors,' the Court of First Instance has heard.
The woman, who was kidnapped together with another maid and held captives by six Bangladeshi men, shortly after absconding from their sponsors, died after jumping off the rooftop of a building to escape.
The six men involved in the crime faced charges including human trafficking, kidnap, rape, false imprisonment, theft and running a brothel.
The Court of First Instance was told four accused kidnapped the two Indonesian maids and held them against their will in a flat.
However, they sold them later to two compatriots who promised them with better paid jobs. But they kept them in two separate places against their will.
One of the women died after she jumped off the building where she was held, in a bid to escape from her captors.
The victim was locked up by a 25-year-old security guard, one of the defendants, in his room on the rooftop of a building in the International City. The three accused raped both the women.
Prosecution record

According to prosecution records, the maids had been staying in a flat in Rashidiyah when four men kidnapped them after pretending they had connections in the police.
They took them to a flat in the same area and stole their cash, mobile phones, necklace and some of their belongings before raping them.
They then sold the two women for Dh1,000 to two other men and said they would pay the rest, another Dh1,000 later.
The security guard took one of the maids to his room. She was crying a lot. He claimed he had consensual sex with her that night and left the place after locking her up.
At 7 am, he left to work while his accomplice, a 37-year-old vendor, stayed with the woman.
The next day he went to the barber after locking the door. In the evening, he got a call from maintenance workers informing him about the fall of a woman off the rooftop.
He called his accomplice to tell him to go to the building. The latter told him that he was buying food for the woman - the one who died - and said he could not go there as he was not carrying an ID.
The other maid identified three of the accused at the police station.
The court adjourned the hearing to September 7.
