The Sharjah Police arrested a principal of a private school - an Arab woman - after she denied transfer certificates to two students. The police action came as the principal refused to follow a court order to hand over the documents of the students to the parent within 24 hours. The police were executing the ruling given by the court, a top official at the Sharjah Police said.
Both the students had to stay out of school for two months, due to the principal's adamant attitude.
At first, the father of the students lodged a complaint at the Ministry of Education. Later, he knocked at the court's door, as the students missed a full academic term which left them reeling under depression.
The father said he decided to file a complaint at the court, because even though he approached the principal several times, she turned down his request to give him his children's school files to shift them to another school. He said the woman even punished his son by making him walk barefoot on the campus because he fought the case against her.
On September 9, the court ordered the school to hand over the files and issue transfer certificates and also pay Dh950 as court fees to the father, but the principal refused to comply with the court ruling.
The man said he again approached the court and informed it that the principal is still denying his children their right to obtain the files and necessary documents to go to another school.
The court sent her the order again and asked her to hand over the documents to the man within 24 hours. It added that failure to do so will entail action. When the principal didn't budge even after the final warning, the court instructed the police to arrest her. The cops brought the woman at Sharjah Police Headquarters to execute the ruling.
The police are an executive authority and their duty is to carry out court order, the top police official said. "The police executed the order issued by the Federal Preliminary court, as the principal didn't follow the court verdict which obliged her to hand over the documents of the students to their parent within 24 hours to be able to enrol them in another school," he pointed out.
