A 22-year-old woman, who resisted arrest and physically assaulted four Dubai police officers, was sentenced to one year in jail on Sunday by the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The case dates back to April 10 when the Russian woman behaved aggressively with the officers while she was taken into custody and placed in detention. She was also accused of verbally abusing one of the police officers. She remains in detention.
The court ordered her deportation after the completion of her jail term. The case was registered at Al Barsha police station. The defendant was arrested by officers from the General Directorate of Traffic.
A policewoman told the prosecutor that she was on duty when the defendant, who was then in the upper floor detention centre, got down to the ground floor and sat on a chair. "I went to her and told her to go upstairs. She ignored me and proceeded to insult me and kick me in the abdomen. When my colleague came, the defendant pulled us both by our hair. Another police officer then came and took her away from us."
The policewoman told the investigator that she had dropped the charges against the defendant. The other policewoman corroborated her colleague's statement. A third police officer told the prosecutor that the defendant slapped him in the face and kicked him. Yet another cop complained that she verbally abused him and that she pushed the hand of a corporal.
According to the forensic report, the two policewomen were left with minor bruises due to the assault.
The defendant can appeal the ruling within 15 days.
