The private schools in the emirate were directed to change their working hours during the holy month of Ramadan.
Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has instructed the private schools not to function more than five hours a day during Ramadan.
"The school hours will start between 8 and 8:30am and finish between 1pm and 1:30pm with shorter breaks as required," said Mohammed Darwish, Chief of Regulations & Permits Commission (RPC) at KHDA.
The decision to reduce school hours has been taken in consultation with parents and school officials to ensure that Muslim students are fully supported to meet their academic needs while fasting.
"The holy month of Ramadan is an extremely important and significant time of the year for Muslims. It is the month of pious observance where values and cultural traditions play an important part. "KHDA is inviting all private schools in Dubai to celebrate the significance of this month with all their students, shedding light on its meanings and expectations," added Darwish.
Schools have also been instructed to exempt fasting students from physical exercise classes . Additionally, fasting students are prohibited from exposure to heat to avoid the risk of exhaustion and dehydration.
Moreover, eating and drinking in the school will be limited to designated areas for non-fasting students, teachers and officials. Schools may choose to plan informative activities to raise their awareness about holy month activities and how it impacts society.
