Boasting diversity, a safe environment and unlimited opportunities, the UAE continues to stand as an ideal hub for higher education catering to students from around the globe.
Complete with internationally accredited instructors, the degree programmes offered at universities in the UAE are designed to train students to become flexible and innovative thinkers, ready to accept the challenges of today's dynamic world.
Theoretical courses are paired with a practical approach, and students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities beyond their elected subjects - such as sports or even public speaking - to make them well-rounded candidates in the modern workforce.
According to a report, Shape of Global Higher Education, published by the British Council last year, the UAE was named the second best country, just after Australia, for quality assurance and degree recognition, out of 38 other nations. It also took the fifth spot for openness towards higher education systems, considering its national strategies, visa procedures and student welfare.
UAE-based universities also rank high in the list of QS Arab Region University Rankings, a globally renowned organisation that takes into consideration the quality of education, facilities and faculty of establishments to help students find a course best suited for their needs. United Arab Emirates University and the American University of Sharjah are placed fifth and eighth, respectively, while 10 other universities - Zayed University, Khalifa University, University of Sharjah, American University in Dubai and Abu Dhabi University fall among the top 50 in the region, followed by Canadian University of Dubai and Higher Colleges of Technology, Ajman University, Al Ain University of Science and Technology and American University in the Emirates for the year 2018.
The UAE continues to attract international universities to set up campuses in the country. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority reported that Dubai alone holds the title of having the world's highest concentration of branch campuses established by international universities, which demonstrates the emirates' dedication to give its residents access to the best global platforms.
Among recent ones is the University of Birmingham, which is the first global top 100 and elite UK Russell Group university to establish a campus in Dubai. Bringing top-notch UK education to the region, students can also apply for scholarships and learn more about its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at its open day, scheduled for August 4, 16 and 17. Several universities also offer vocational courses to help professionals improve and hone skills in a variety of fields.
In order to further raise the bar of standards, the Ministry of Education had recently announced a strategy where a comprehensive integrated programme would focus on four main pillars - innovation, quality, relevance and efficiency. The move, which will be introduced in phases, is in line to enhance students' skill levels, and respond to the needs of the market.
