The University of Birmingham officially opened its campus in Dubai in February this year - becoming the first global top 100 and elite UK Russell Group university to establish a campus in Dubai.
The University of Birmingham Dubai will open its doors to students in September 2018. With a strong tradition of teaching excellence commended by the UK's Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), the University is offering degrees that will be taught, examined and accredited to the same recognised high standards as those delivered on its UK campus.
Initially, there will be opportunities for students to study Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Business Management and Economics at Undergraduate level, all with the option of an integrated foundation year if necessary. At Postgraduate level, International Business, Computer Science and a PGCE with Primary education pathways and Secondary education pathways in Science, English and Mathematics are available.
Meanwhile, the University is already developing programmes in the subject areas of Law, Psychology, and Accounting & Finance to follow, and there are also plans to establish an active programme of research.
Whilst the context to the broader student experience will be different to that of the UK, the quality and standard of education, resources and expertise will replicate the approach of the University in Birmingham. Students will graduate with a University of Birmingham Degree and be supported to develop the broader range of graduate attributes that employers expect from Birmingham students.
Prospective students can apply for scholarships to support them during their studies, and the university has announced a package of exclusive 'Chancellor's Award' scholarships - each worth up to Dh31,000 per year of study - for students that wish to study at a world-class university in the heart of Dubai's International Academic City.
As a commitment to outstanding students that the University of Birmingham has a history of attracting, the University's Chancellor, Lord Karan Bilimoria, is delighted to sponsor the Chancellor's Awards. These awards celebrates the inaugural year of the University of Birmingham Dubai.
More information on applying for the Chancellor's Scholarship Awards can be found at www.birmingham.ac.uk/dubai/study/fees-and-funding/scholarships.aspx
Prospective students and families have the opportunity to ask any questions about these scholarships, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes or student experience at the University's upcoming open day on August 4 (Saturday), 16 (Thursday) and 17 (Friday). Students can register for the Open Day events on the University of Birmingham Dubai website (www.birmingham.ac.uk/dubai/events/open-day/open-days-2018.aspx), while more information on applying for programmes at the University of Birmingham Dubai can be found at: www.birmingham.ac.uk/dubai
The University of Birmingham Dubai may be the University of Birmingham's first independent overseas campus, but the University already had significant global reach and impact, supporting its position at 79th in QS World University Rankings, through a range of strategic global partnerships across the US, Australia, China and Brazil. The Dubai campus is the latest phase of global expansion and builds on international teaching activities in Singapore and China, as well as the University's extensive international research collaborations.
Closer to home, as a global university with a civic outlook, the University of Birmingham Dubai is committed to contributing to the UAE society and supports the UAE's vision of developing a competitive economy driven by knowledge and innovation, as well as Dubai's goal of building an international education hub.
The University aims to offer the highest quality academic experience to stretch and challenge students in Dubai, whilst encouraging bold, independent thinking to ensure that graduates are equipped to stand out in a competitive, global employment market. Students who choose to study at the University of Birmingham Dubai will be taught by outstanding academics; experts in their fields, who are shaping policy, influencing society, and changing lives around the globe. They will join one of the world's top 100 universities, which counts 11 Nobel Prize winners among its former staff and students.
