Wartime figure Oskar Schindler's old factory will be turned into a museum according to the Oskar Schindler Foundation.
The foundation obtained management of the abandoned and decrepit facility last August. It plans to restore the Brnenec factory and turn it into a Holocaust museum by 2019.
Schindler, who was a German industrialist during the Second World War became famous for his actions of saving over 1,200 Jews by putting them under his ammunition factory's employ. These actions reached worldwide recognition in the 1993 film 'Schindler's List' by Steven Spielberg.
The factory has been open to the public since 2010 in a state of disarray after the war. Being the only former concentration camp in the Czech Republic it has become a frequent stop for many of those curious of Schindler's actions during the war. The Foundation believes that turning the factory into a memorial will attract more visitors to the country in the same effect as that of Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial in Poland.
