Are you a frequent flier? The status definitely comes with its perks - but one of its downsides is how jetlagged and dishevelled you tend to look when you step off a plane. So, what's the secret to looking as great when you touch ground, as when you took off?
Looking fresh while living out of a bag is what cabin crew do best, says international air steward Jay Robert. "Every cabin crew has their own secrets - here are mine."
Drink water - Water will take care of many of the negative effects of travel, from dull tired skin to jetlag. I keep a 1.5 litre bottle of water in my bag and drink it as soon as I get to my hotel. In addition, I found a great travel secret from New Zealand called 1 Above, a flight drink that gives your water an added punch full of vitamins and electrolytes and kills jetlag.
Hydrate the skin - When I first started bag life, I had so many lotions and potions full of chemicals that I would lather on my skin to keep it from drying out during flights. I soon learned to stop throwing my money away and go for plant-based, natural products to hydrate my skin. I use a nourishing pomegranate oil when I fly and, when I get back to ground, where there is more moisture in the air, I strip that off with a toner and apply a lighter day cream, which keeps my skin fresh and free of breakouts.
East fresh, be fresh - Avoid heavy foods when you travel. Airplane food is packed full of sodium. We lose a good part of our taste buds in the air so, to compensate, even more salt is added to make you think you're having a delish dining experience above the clouds. All that sodium makes you puffy and bloated. I order a fruit platter or avoid plane food altogether.
Exercise even when you travel - The secret to keeping young and fit - at least for us cabin crew - is loads of time in the gym. When flight attendants reach a destination, a good number go right to the gym. We find this helps with jetlag and staying strong and trim.
