Abu Dhabi cracks down on illegal satellite dishes

The Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) has cracked down on illegal satellite dishes on rooftops and balconies in a citywide inspection campaign.
An inspection and awareness campaign was carried out with the City Centre Municipality, aimed at removing illegal satellite dishes.
 
During the campaign, the municipality issued 22 warnings to violators. They also asked them to remove them and instead install a 1 to 4 central satellite dishes system to meet the requirements of residents.
 
The step is part of the municipality's efforts to improve and maintain the city's public appearance, the environment and ensure safety and security standards - under Law No. 2 of 2012.
 
It's also part of the ongoing campaigns in the city to monitor and control irregularities.
 
The campaign aimed at controlling this illegal practice and raise public awareness about the negative consequences of unauthorised installation of satellite dishes, how they harm the 'aesthetics' of the city, cause 'visual pollution' and hinder periodic maintenance works required for buildings.
 
The Municipality called upon residents to contribute to its efforts and collaborate with its strategic partners in improving the appearance of the city and eliminating all forms of pollution.
It also urged them to comply with the law and its executive regulations regarding satellite dishes.

Know the law

The municipal laws forbid:
- Installing more than four satellite dishes on the rooftop of a building
- Installing satellite dishes on balconies in all types of buildings.
- Installing satellite dishes on rooftop walls and garden walls.
- Hanging connecting cables on building facades.
Violators face Dh2,000 in fines for breaking the law.
