Organised by the ministry’s Occupational Health and Safety Department, the campaign targets business owners in Dubai and the northern regions through three discussion meetings every week up to September.

“The campaign represents the ministry’s keenness on educating owners to follow a list of mandatory housing standards. Labour housing should include certain components to be built upon, such as the location, size and proportionality with the number of users,” said Director of Occupational Health and Safety Department Ali Salem Al Qaiwani at a meeting with business owners.

“Owners must provide all bedroom requirements for their workers, as well as meet the requirements for providing all necessary facilities such as kitchens, eating rooms and medical clinics that will ensure the safety and comfort of those resident labourers.”

Al Qaiwani urged business owners to adhere to the ministry’s list of housing standards and pointed out that frequent field visits by the ministry inspectors are aimed at reporting lawbreakers and slapping them with harsh fines and sanctions.

On their part, business owners praised the ministry for organising the campaign to raise awareness of decisions relating to occupational health and safety in particular in order to help them avoid violations.
