The ambassador of UAE to Pakistan met cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan earlier this week after his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, won the general elections held on July 25. UAE embassy in Pakistan tweeted pictures of Ambassador Hamad Obaid Alzaabi's meeting with Khan on Wednesday at the latter's residence in Islamabad's Bani Gala. Khan's PTI emerged as the largest party in the national assembly with 115 seats as well as winning majority seats in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The party is also trying to form a government in the province of Punjab. It is noteworthy that in his victory speech, Khan spoke about Pakistan's role as a mediator in the Middle East to resolve any conflicts. The 65-year-old PTI leader is expected to take oath as prime minister on August 11. Saudi Arabia's ambassador was among the first foreign diplomats to visit Khan and congratulate him.
