India Social Centre (ISC) has announced that it will be holding a three-day Onam showcase this year, which will commence with the cultural programme on September 11 at 8pm.

This will be a two-hour extravaganza of Malayalam folklore and dance, comprising favourite items like the "Kaikotti Kalli", "Ottam Thullal", "Pulli Kalli" and "Vella Kalli", with about 1,000 people expected to attend.

The traditional "Onasadhya" or feast on the banana leaf will take place at the ISC from 12 noon on September 12, with members and special guests expected to attend.

Kerala Social Centre (KSC) will also be celebrating Onam with typical fanfare, kicking off with an evening of cultural entertainment at the centre on September 10 at 9pm, again to be attended by more than 1,000 people. This will include items like the "Thiruvaddira Kalli", and a popular skit put together by children.

Also scheduled for the evening of September 10, is the Flower Carpet Competition organised by the women and children at the centre, which will take place at 4pm. On September 12, the "Onasadhya" at the KSC for 700 to 750 people, will commence at 11.30am.

Abu Dhabi Malayalee Samajam (ADMS) has also announced that it will hold a three-day celebration this year, for what is undoubtedly one of only two important festivals for the Malayalee community.

ADMS will hold its cultural evening also on September 10, again featuring 'unforgettable vignettes' from "God's Own Country", from 8.30pm to 11.30pm.

The Flower Carpet Competition scheduled for September 11 will pick out the most colourful and imaginative designs, with winners to be awarded genuine gold medals for their efforts. The traditional Onam lunch on September 12 will go on from 11.30am to 4pm.
