Dh75m for Ajman sewerage project
AJMAN - His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, toured the Ajman Sewerage Project on Monday to review the progress of construction work at the treatment plant. The work started in March this year and the plant will become operational by August 2004.
Shaikh Humaid has allocated Dh75 million from his own funds to support the project. The grant will enable the company to offer 25 per cent discount on connection fees.
During the visit, Shaikh Humaid was accompanied by Ali Al Hamrani, Director of Ajman Municipality, officials from various government departments in Ajman, staff and engineers of Ajman Sewerage Company.
During the visit, Mr Al Hamrani thanked Shaikh Humaid for his support to the project. He hoped that landlords in the emirate would register their properties for the connection of sewerage services, thus contributing to the development of Ajman. He said landlords were keen on contributing to the development of the emirate's infrastructure, energising its economy and attract investors.

Shaikh Humaid cancelled an earlier decision to appoint a judge competent with reviewing sewerage-related matters and announced a 25 per cent discount on connection fees by allocating Dh75 million from his own funds, so that landlords in Ajman pay discounted rates for sewerage connection fees.
The Government of Ajman will announce in two days the revised connection fees and other details on the registration process.
Shaikh Humaid will appoint a special panel comprising Ajman citizens to resolve some differences between the company and landlords. The reduced connection fees apply to all those property owners who have already registered and who will register now. According to the statement, the fees for connection of sewerage services in Ajman are now less than that of neighbouring emirates for similar services.
The Government of Ajman will be appointing a committee to look into the financial background of landlords of limited income who are in financial difficulty and are receiving monetary assistance from the government.
This assessment would be done after completion of the registration process.
Ajman Sewerage Company has announced that work on the treatment plant is ahead of schedule. Over 60 per cent of landlords will be connected before end of 2004 and the remaining 40 per cent will be connected over the last 18 months of the project's development.
The new sewerage system will prevent the pollution of ground water, as waste water will no longer seep into the earth thus limiting the damage to the foundations of buildings which could restrict future construction in Ajman.
In addition, through the treatment and recycling of waste water, large quantity of water will be available to irrigate landscaping projects.
