Received yesterday evening 55,000 copies of a unique edition of Holy Quran produced in a new design with novel and uniform calligraphy, perfect printing and binding, as desired by His Highness Shaikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who commissioned the project.

"I am honoured to stand here today to receive the Holy Book in the presence of eminent scholars. God has blessed Dubai with printing the Holy Book and organising the Dubai International Holy Quran Award. "The world today is going through a great crisis and we believe that the Holy Book is the only way out of these tribulations.

"It is our duty to take the Holy Quran to people the world over, as it will guard them from going astray. I would like to thank all those who worked to make this project a success," Shaikh Hamdan said while speaking at a ceremony at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry's auditorium.

The exquisitely designed Book was distributed after the ceremony attended by eminent Islamic scholars and government officials.

Master calligrapher Jamal Bustan, who has won a number of international awards for his work, took two years on the Holy Book project.

Two major committees had been formed to ensure that each and every hand-written word and each page is accurate linguistically down to the minutest detail.

The first copies were presented to prominent Islamic institutions, including Al Azhar of Egypt and Auqaf ministries for final approval.
