Technical allowance granted to engineers and technicians

ABU DHABI — Shaikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, issued yesterday a decree granting a technical allowance commensurable with 50 per cent of the basic salary, to federal government national engineers, agricultural engineers and holders of auxiliary engineering posts.

Article 1 of the decree grants those engineers, who hold unversity degrees in civil, electrical, mechanical and interior design engineering and architecture or equivalent, a technical allowance of 50 per cent of the basic salary but should not exceed Dh5,000.

According to the decree, a total of 30 per cent of the basic salary shall be granted, as technical allowance, to federal government national agricultural engineers and engineers, who hold university degrees or equivalent in specialisations other than the ones provided in Article 1.


Those eligible to the perscribed allowance, as stipulated by Article III of the decree, shall be the ones who do not occupy posts of under-secretary or assistant under-secretary and that they shall be working on full time basis.

However, they shall not be engaged in part time jobs outside the purview of Aricle 64-5 of Federal Law No. 21 for 2001 on Civil Service in the Federal Government.

National technicians occupying auxiliary engineering posts at federal government departments and holders of below-university academic qualifications, are entitled to an allowance of 30 per cent of the basic salary, however, it should not excced Dh1,500 per month.

Article V has abrogated Cabinet Decision No.1 for 1988 granting technical allowances to federal government national engineers. The decree shall come into force as from the first date of the month ensuing its date of publication.
